the Rev. Chris Jillard

Meet Our New Rector!

After a search that has taken nearly two years, we are pleased to announce that the Rev. Chris Jillard, 56, has accepted the call to become our new rector. Chris is the rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Altoona, Penn., a position she's held since her ordination seven years ago.

Chris and her husband Rick, retired from the Navy Reserve and a career in sales and management, hope to be in the area by late October. Chris expects to begin her duties Nov. 1 and will preach Nov. 2 for All Saints’ Day. We will have just one service that Sunday, at 10 a.m.

Chris got her Masters of Divinity from General Theological Seminary in New York and was ordained in 2001, becoming a fifth generation clergyperson in her family. At St. Luke’s she has focused on growing and developing lay ministry and leadership, integrating youth into parish ministries and guiding the parish in articulating its vision: Passion for God, Compassion for People.

Before seminary she was the Assistant Director of the county library system in Harrisburg, Penn., overseeing nine libraries, a budget of $2.5 million and staff of 150.

Her particular ministry interests are balancing celebration and relationship-building with spiritual growth and service to the outside world. She is also keenly interested in youth and loves to preach. She is a classically trained vocalist and pianist and enjoys yoga, duplicate bridge and knitting.

Affordable Housing at St. Margaret's

Plans for affordable housing at St. Margaret's

St. Margaret's hopes to partner with St. Andrew's Housing Group to build 40 units of affordable housing behind the church's Thrift Shop on its property in Factoria. The proposal is winning praise and support from local, state and federal agencies because it will meet a clear need for housing for veterans and others transitioning from homelessness on the Eastside.

If you would like to know more about this project and who it will serve, contact our Facility Use Committee at facilityuse@saintmargarets.org.

Unique Fellowship Opportunity:
Create-a-BBQ, Sept. 6

Sign-ups continue for St. Margaret's 8th "Create-a-BBQ," a unique fellowship opportunity on Saturday, Sept. 6. That is when we will prepare, cook and enjoy a BBQ at Bob and Nancy Jacobs' home in Bellevue, working together on teams.

Cost is $18 per person, plus each must sign up for at least one work team. The event begins at 4:30 p.m., but work crews begin arriving at 2:30 p.m. Find more information here and in the narthex, or contact the Create-a-BBQ Committee
