Spiritual direction is an ancient ministry, a unique relationship in which a trained person assists another in the search for an ever-closer union of love with God. Both lay and ordained men and women practice this ministry today, as in the past. The term spiritual director is a traditional term for this ministry, but in fact, an effective spiritual director is not very directive and tries to be as transparent as possible, allowing divinity to relate directly to the seeker.

A spiritual director is not a therapist, or a Stephens Minister, but more a coach and a caring companion. Relating with divinity implies relating with the vast source of all power, all creativity, all love. This can be a formidable task. A spiritual director helps us from losing heart, providing mentoring, support, and challenge as we continue to grow in spiritual awareness.

Several people in our community are active in this ministry, and are prepared to walk with people as they live the spiritual life. They have all received some form of training in the art of spiritual mentoring.
